Manchester City has defeated West Bromwich Albion in a Premier League match played at The Hawthorns on Saturday. City won the match by a close margin of 2-1. This was the fifth victory for City in the ongoing Premier League. With the help of this win, City has retained its no. 3 position in the Premier League points table.
Manchester City is yet to be defeated in the ongoing Premier League tournament. City has played 8 matches in the competition so far out of which it has won five, while, the remaining three matches have finished without any result. Roberto Mancini’s team currently has 18 points in 8 matches.
On the other hand, this was only the second defeat for West Bromwich Albion in the tournament. The Baggies have won four out of the eight matches that they have played in the tournament so far. They have been defeated in a couple of matches, while, the rest two matches have ended in the form of draws. Due to the defeat against Manchester City, West Brom has slipped down to no. 6 in the points table. The Baggies currently have 14 points in 8 matches.
The match was played at the home ground of West Brom and as expected, a large number of supporters turned up to watch the match. In the first 45 minutes, both the teams played decently, but, neither of them was able to score a goal.
West Bromwich Albion took the lead of 1-0 in the 22nd minute of the second half. Shane Long was the player who took West Brom ahead in the match by capitalizing on the pass of Peter Odemwingie.
West Brom maintained its lead till the 80th minute of the match and it seemed that the defending champions might have to suffer their first defeat of the tournament. But, that didn’t happen. Eden Dzeko scored a couple of goals for City in the last 10 minutes and City remained unbeaten in the tournament.
Manchester City’s next match will be a Champions League encounter against Ajax Amsterdam on Wednesday at Amsterdam Arena.
