Boca Juniors moved to the top of their group in the Copa Libertadores after a 6-2 win over Deportivo Cali.
This appeared to be the perfect match for Carlos Tevez to improve his goalscoring form. After all, the opposition were reduced to 10 men during the 90 minutes. Tevez took full advantage of the mediocre form of the opponents to score a brace. Finishing top of the group gives a big advantage way into the knockout stages. Only the top two positions will be to qualify for the next round. Racing Club have come as the group’s second placed outfit.
After starting the Copa Libertadores campaign in disappointing fashion, Boca Juniors could not have wished for a better finish. They started the campaign with two consecutive draws, which meant that Bolívar were top of the table after the opening two games. Hence, there was a real pressure upon Boca Juniors to get a win from the game. Victory would move them closer towards the prospect of reaching the next round without any hiccups. However, the first half of the game did not suggest any good result for the home team, who went into the break at 2-2.
Carlos Tevez had just scored his first goal of the evening to at least take Boca Juniors level into the break. The second half, however, was a complete demolition from the home team. The likes of Chávez,Jara, and Palacios joined in the hunt for the goals and striker Tevez also joined in the fun by scoring his second of the evening. The 6-2 win puts Boca Juniors comfortably ahead in front when it comes to qualification for the next round. They have finished three points ahead of second placed Racing Club. It has been learnt that Boca Juniors will be up against Cerro Porteño in the next round.
